June 8, 2020 – Kuujjuaq, Nunavik – Makivik Corporation announces it will hold a virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) on July 14-16, 2020. Makivik had intended to hold its AGM in Akulivik March 23-26, 2020. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the AGM was postponed.
“We decided to hold it virtually,” said Makivik President Charlie Watt. “We are not the only organization holding a virtual AGM. The coronavirus means large organizations across the country and around the world are doing this. We will be able to hold our AGM this way, and ensure that we respect the public health measures in effect in Nunavik so that there will be no large gathering, Inuit will not have to travel, and we will make sure we respect physical distance rules in effect.”
Makivik executives met on May 28th to discuss the methods to hold the AGM, and send out notices to the membership. They decided to shorten the meeting to only two days, and reduce the agenda accordingly. All documents will be sent digitally via email. In addition, the AGM will be broadcast across the Nunavik region via Taqramiut Nipingat Inc. Radio, as usual.
