Job Description:

ABOUT US: The Makivvik Justice Department helps administer justice using culturally adapted approaches which focus primarily on healing individuals, families, and the community, while also dealing with the underlying causes of crime.  Para-judicial workers, local justice committees, correctional liaison agents and Gladue writers offer direct services to Nunavimmiut at various stages of the justice and correctional process. The Justice Department consists of six (6) separate programs all relating to alternative justice initiatives in Nunavik, which includes Justice Committees, Para-Judicial Workers, Corrections Program, Gladue Reports, Record Suspension Program and Qullik Healthy Relationships.

We are currently seeking a TRAINING DEVELOPMENT OFFICER who will report to the Assistant Director of the Justice Department.

The TRAINING DEVELOPMENT OFFICER aims to:

  • Design and facilitate training interventions for all programs under the Justice Department in collaboration with each manager.

We strongly encourage Inuit beneficiaries to apply to this position. Extensive training and continuous support will be provided to employees that don’t have previous work experience in the justice system. Inuit and cultural knowledge in general will be valued.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop relevant, value-adding training for all programs;
  • Develop training curriculum for new and existing employees;
  • Design training manuals for internal documented procedures;
  • Develop teaching aids, such as training handbooks, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials and reference materials;
  • Facilitate the transfer of skills and knowledge;
  • Accurately assess skills, abilities and knowledge to determine competence level of all employees;
  • Works in collaboration with Program Heads to test trainees, to measure progress and to evaluate the effectiveness of the training;
  • Facilitate and coordinate trainings in remote communities;
  • Compile and update statistical information with respect to training completed, attendance levels and targets achieved;
  • Prepare reports on the activities of the training interventions and projects outlining objectives and accomplishments of outcomes;
  • Regularly update training materials, in line with ongoing changes to processes and agreements;
  • Writes business proposals with budgets in line with funding applications;
  • Perform other administrative and professional duties required for the smooth running of the programs as assigned by the management team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent;
  • Understanding of the Inuit culture and traditions is an asset;
  • Extensive knowledge of the Justice system in Nunavik and Corrections pertaining to Inuit;
  • Strong leadership, motivation, and communication skills;
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills with an eye for detail;
  • High level of integrity, autonomy, and accountability;
  • Problem solver and ability to adapt in certain situations;
  • Available to travel for trainings and meetings;
  • Languages: English. Inuktitut and French are an asset;
  • Excellent English writing skills;
  • Advance level competence with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point).
