Makivik Opens Applications for Lead and Deputy Negotiators for Nunavik Self-Determination Process
Kuujjuaq – September 8th 2022 – Makivik Corporation is seeking interested and qualified Nunavik beneficiaries who would like to submit their candidacy for the positions of Lead Negotiator and Deputy Negotiator for the Nunavik Self-Determination process.
The process has been ongoing since May 2018 when a Nunavik All Organizations Meeting adopted the 2018 Nunavik Inuit Declaration that mandated Makivik to negotiate with Canada and Quebec in order to establish a form of ethnic government based on Inuit values, identity, culture and language.
With the election of Makivik President Pita Aatami in 2021 a new approach was taken aiming to be fully transparent and inclusive of all organizations in Nunavik and of all beneficiaries.
Interested applicants may submit their cover letters outlining why they feel they are the appropriate candidate for these positions, along with a summary of their career, to the attention of Makivik’s Legal Department Director Stephane Palardy, at <SPalardy@makivik.org>.
Applications must be received by Friday, September 23rd, 2022. The list of potential candidates will be reviewed during the upcoming Makivik Corporation board of directors meeting in October.
