Makivik was created as a non-profit entity. At the same time, it faced the challenge of determining ways to invest its financial resources in order to fulfill its commitments to economic development and job creation for the Inuit of Nunavik.
The natural and smart business approach was to create profitable subsidiary companies, each with its own corporate leadership and board of directors, and each with a mandate to operate profitable, professional companies that represent the interests of its shareholders, who are the Inuit of Nunavik.
