Andy Pirti was born August 9, 1974 in Puvirnituq, Quebec. Andy grew up in the community of Akulivik and completed his high school degree at Arsaniq School in Kangiqsujjuaq in 1993. Andy subsequently attended CEGEP Marie-Victorin in Montreal-North where he studied social science. He later obtained a business administration degree at Vanier College in Montreal.
Prior to his employment at Makivik Corporation Andy held the position of Archivist/Librarian at the Avataq Cultural Institute in 2001. In 2007 Andy took on the position of Investment Accountant in the Makivik finance department from 2007 to 2011. He was Advisor to former Makivik Treasurer Anthony Ittoshat for two years.
Andy is a former Director of: Air Inuit, First Air, Nunavik Creations, Halutik Enterprises, Nunavik Geomatics, Nunacell, and Kautaq Construction.
Since 2005 Andy Pirti has been an active volunteer with the Association of Montreal Inuit (AMI). AMI holds monthly feasts for urban Inuit who have little to no access to Inuit country food. Andy have been integral in bringing the Northern traditions to the Inuit living in the South, allowing his fellow Nunavimmiut to continue to practice and hold on to their Inuit heritage.Andy Pirti
