Pita Aatami selected as winner for Arthur Kroeger Award

Kuujjuaq, Quebec March 19, 2009 – Pita Aatami President of Makivik Corporation will be the recipient of the Arthur Kroeger Award in the Policy Leadership category. The award is granted to the recipients and its aim is to encourage commitment to the public for public affairs.

Created in 2001, the Arthur Kroeger College of Public Affairs at Carleton University has held award ceremonies in five different categories: Public Discourse, Management, Ethics, Citizenship and Community Affaires and Policy Leadership in which Mr. Aatami is being recognized for.

The winners are selected by independent juries whose work is conducted by former press secretary to Prime Minister Mulroney and Bill Fox, former Vice-President of BCE Inc.

Mr. Aatami has been selected recipient for the award for a number of reasons. The jury citation reads: “A tireless symbol of Inuit progress and sovereignty in the North, Pita Aatami has shaped policies that have uplifted and strengthened social, economic and political progress for the Inuit that will serve for generations. The broad range of his policy leadership in the North,in business, education, politics, social progress and community development, and the broad impact of the causes he has championed and of his approach to championing those causes makes him a superb recipient of the 2009 Kroeger Award for Policy Leadersip”

The award gala ceremony will take place on May 7th 2009 in Ottawa. Past recipients are the likes of Rick Mercer, Lieutenant General Romeo Dallaire, the First Nations Bank of Canada and Project Ploughshares.

Corporate Objectives
