Nunavut Eastern Arctic Shipping
NEAS is a marine lifeline of the Arctic communities across Nunavik and Nunavut, covering a staggering marine geographic area comprising the Hudson Bay, Ungava Bay, and Arctic communities across the expanse of the Northwest Passage.
It is a partnership between Makivik and two major development corporations within the Nunavut Tunngavik Inuit land claim, the Qikiqtaaluk Corporation and Sakku Investments. In a region with no highway or railway network, marine transportation is vital. Necessities such as food, fuel and building materials are carried on the decks and holds of the NEAS vessels during the summer and autumn re-supplying every northern community and outpost camp or mining operation. NEAS was created to offer marine transportation services using our skills and experience in order to contribute positively to the economic growth of the north and provide benefits to Nunavik and Nunavut Inuit.
