Discounts for Nunavik Inuit
Makivik Corporation has always worked hard to find ways to reduce the high-cost-of-living for Nunavik Inuit. As we know, Nunavimmiut are among the highest taxpayers in Canada for that matter. Hunting and fishing are important customs in our culture and the right gear needed are often too expensive or unavailable in the north. Clothing/outdoor attire are another necessity that can be too pricey in Nunavik. Everyday houseware is also limited and costly.
We are proud to announce once again that in Montreal there are retails stores with all needed articles for Inuit that give discounts to the JBNQA beneficiaries. Upon presentation of your beneficiary card, the below retail stores will give you a discount.
The newest retail stores to give you discounts are La Baie and Zellers at the Dorval shopping centre but please note that they will offer their discounts on a certain day of the month only. La Baie will give you a 15% discount on the first Tuesday of every month and Zellers will give you a discount of 10% on the first Monday of every month.
Anyone who sees a group of Inuit shopping in Montreal might think they are well off because they are always shopping but little do they know that Inuit go to Montreal to shop because it is simply too expensive to shop at home. Many of whom travel for medical reasons, work related reasons and/or to visit family. We advise you to be careful with your spendings. Sales clerks will try and lure you to buy more stuff and overspend. There even has been a couple of instances where Inuit have been targeted by strangers to steal their money. So be careful and enjoy your discounted shopping!
