Treasurer

Anthony Ittoshat was elected Treasurer in March, 1999, following his appointment to the position in the fall of 1998. He was re-elected in 2002 and in 2005. He was previously Member of the Board of Makivik Corporation for his home community of Kuujjuaraapik, a position he was elected to in February 1997. As Makivik Treasurer, Mr. Ittoshat oversees the financial operations of the corporation, including Makivik's investment portfolio. He is responsible for overseeing issues such as taxation, banking services, the Nunavik Heating Oil Program, the Community Donation Fund, and the Sanarrutik Funds.

Mr. Ittoshat is a member of the federal James Bay Implementation Office (JBIO), which oversees the implementation of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement for the Nunavik Inuit in the federal sphere. He is on the Board of Directors of two Makivik subsidiary companies - Air Inuit, and Nunavik Arctic Foods, as well as the joint venture company, Pan Arctic Inuit Logistics (PAIL).

Mr. Ittoshat was the Mayor of Kuujjuaraapik from 1991 to 1999. From 1994 to November, 1998, he was Kativik Regional Government Regional Councillor for Kuujjuaraapik. He was appointed by KRG to sit on the Executive Committee of the Kativik School Board from 1994-1997. He also sat on the Nunavik Investment Corporation Board from 1997 to November, 1998. In 1998 he was Vice-Chairman of the Kativik Regional Government prior to his appointment as Makivik Treasurer.

From 1989-1994 he was a negotiator on behalf of the Inuit for the Great Whale Hydro Project, Phase Two.

From 1989-1990 Mr. Ittoshat was Municipal Manager for the community of Kuujjuaraapik. He worked in many different positions at the municipality from 1982 - 1988. From 1979-1981 he worked as the Co-op Store Manger.

Anthony Ittoshat was born in 1962. He attended Federal Day School in Kuujjuaraapik and left the community to attend Sir John Franklin High School in Yellowknife from 1976 to 1979.

Mr. Ittoshat has six children - three girls and three boys, his spouse Tukiqqi is originally from Kangirsujuaq. He enjoys hunting and fishing, playing softball and golf in the summer, and skiing in the winter. He is a chess player, and a guitarist. He has been active in local associations, such as the Junior Rangers, and creating a Men's Association modelled after the "Big Brothers" organization.
