Corporate Secretary

George Berthe is the Corporate Secretary for Makivik Corporation. He was first elected to this position in April, 1998. He won a second mandate in March, 2001, and was acclaimed in March 2004 for another three year term. As Corporate Secretary, Mr. Berthe is responsible for the administration of Makivik Corporation and the company's day to day operations. He is the Chairman of Air Inuit, and on the Board of Directors of First Air, Nunavik Arctic Foods, Unaaq fisheries, Nunavik Tourism Association, Cruise North. He is also Promoter and Co-founder for Ivakkak dog team race.

Mr. Berthe was born March 24, 1974 in Kuujjuaq. He obtained his formal education at Jaanimmarik School in Kuujjuaq.

Prior to his current positions, he was Co-ordinator of the Chairman's office for the Kativik Regional Government from 1992-1994. His interest in public broadcasting lead him to Taqramiut Nipingat Inc. where he became Production Manager for the TV and Radio Departments then was promoted to Director General during 1994-1996. He became President of Taqramiut Nipingat inc. in 1997, and served until 1999.

Mr. Berthe has been very active in making contributions to his community and Nunavik at large. From 1989-1993 he was a Youth Committee Member. He served on the Education Council of Jaanimmarik School from 1992-1994, and was a Director of the Nayumivik Landholding Corporation for the same period.

In 1997 George Berthe was honoured with a National Aboriginal Achievement Award for his contribution to Youth issues and more recently was considered one of the "Top ten under 35 in Nunavik and Nunavut" by the eastern Arctic weekly paper Nunatsiak News.

He is a member of the Canadian Rangers since 1993. He enjoys hunting, fishing, camping and international travel. George married in 2005 to Jolene Jenkins, they reside in Kuujjuaq and have a beautiful baby daughter.
