Anthony Ittoshat, Treasurer

Anthony Ittoshat was first elected to the Makivik executive as the  treasurer in March, 1999. He is presently in his fourth three-year term.

Previously he was a member of the board of directors for Makivik Corporation, representing his community of Kuujjuaraapik.

As Makivik’s treasurer, Mr. Ittoshat oversees the financial operations of the corporation, including Makivik’s investment portfolio.

Anthony Ittoshat was born in 1962. He attended federal day school in Kuujjuaraapik and left the community to attend Sir John Franklin High School in Yellowknife from 1976 to 1979.

Mr. Ittoshat is a member of the federal James Bay Implementation Office (JBIO), which oversees the implementation of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement for the Nunavik Inuit in the federal sphere. He is on the board of directors of Makivik subsidiary company, Air Inuit, as well as the joint venture company, Pan Arctic Inuit Logistics (PAIL).

Mr. Ittoshat was the mayor of Kuujjuaraapik from 1991 to 1999 and simultaneously, from 1994 to 1999, served as regional councillor for Kuujjuaraapik on the Kativik Regional Government. At the time, he served on the executive committee of the Kativik School Board. He was appointed by Kativik Regional Government to sit on the executive committee of the Kativik School Board from 1994-1997.

Before his election to the Makivik executive, Anthony was Inuit negotiator for the Great Whale Hydro Project, phase  two, from 1989 to 1994.

Mr Ittoshat worked in several positions for the municipality of Kuujjuaraapik including as their municipal manager from 1989 to 1990.

Mr. Ittoshat has six children; three girls and three boys. His wife, Tukiqqi, is originally from Kangiqsujuaq. He enjoys hunting, fishing, playing softball, golf, and skiing. He is a chess player, and also enjoys playing music (e.g. he sings, plays guitars, banjos, etc.).

Corporate Objectives

  • Makivik Mandate

    Politically, culturally and economically, Makivik has been a leader in building and developing a vibrant region called Nunavik, where, between the dualistic nations of Canada and Quebec, Inuit have established our own distinct place and identity.
